Withholding from an IRA Distribution – Help?

It’s March 12th and I find I want to make an IRA distribution to retire the balance in my HELOC. I have done distributions non periodically since passing the 59 1/2 age threshold in 2006. Some years not doing any distributions but never more than one in any given tax years. This would probably be the only one I do this year.

And I find that I am already significantly withheld for CY 2016 due to some W-2Gs and don’t really want to make the US government an interest free loan until I file my 2016 in April of 2017. So…

Q. Can I make a distribution and elect to withhold ZERO? Or is there some minimum withholding % that has to be done?

TIA

You can decline withholding on IRA distributions anytime. If you do not specify your preference the default rate is 10%.
