Pre-Secure Act Inherited IRA – New Single Life Table or Continue Usin

Here are the facts:

IRA owner died in 2007 after his RBD. The beneficiary of the IRA was not an individual.

RMDs were calculated based on decedent’s age and single life expectancy in the year of death and reduced by 1 each year thereafter.

This year (2022), based on the old single life table, was to be the final year of the IRA as the full balance of the inherited IRA would have to be distributed.

However, if the new single life table is used, the full amount of the inherited IRA would not have to be distributed this year and would have another 3 years (including this year).

IRS notes that the new single life table should be applied to beneficiary’s life expectancy, but in this case the single life table is not based on the beneficiary’s age or life expectancy – it’s based on the decedent’s age in the year of death.

Here is the question:
Is the RMD in this situation calculated using the NEW or OLD single life table?

The RMD divisor should be reset to the new 2022 tables, and that is likely to extend the distribution period.
