WSJ: Social Security Answers and Advisor Concerns

Compiled by Jared Trexler

The Wall Street Journal spent a good amount of real estate over the weekend on the Social Security topic, so we felt it only appropriate to share that information with you this Monday morning.

First, a weekend article dealt with Social Security solutions–how to calculate your retirement benefits, how to suspend payouts and file complaints.  The article not only includes answers to some popular topics, but provides great links to Social Security calculators and other pertinent information.  Here are two important links from the article, first a great calculator (socialsecurity.gov/planners/benefitcalculators.htm) and where you can find your Social Security statement (socialsecurity.gov/mystatement).

Your financial and retirement situation is unique, not a cookie-cutter template that can be copied and pasted from someone else’s plan.  This Kelly Greene article looks into when/how much to take from Social Security and other financial and retirement planning topics.  The title “Your Advisor Did What?!” is apt in this age of various planning pitfalls.  Make sure your advisor is educated in retirement distribution planning and provides all available options.
